Growing and Caring for Melons in a Polytunnel
I have raised some melon plants ('Fast Break' and 'Charentais') in my polytunnel. Should I treat them the same way as cucumbers or do they need any special care?
Melons are similar to cucumbers in terms of growing conditions, but there are some special considerations. Melons can be grown up strings or left on the ground. To keep them tidy, pinch out the growing point and train the two side shoots on strings by winding them around. The side shoots from these shoots carry the fruits. Be sure to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged and avoid overhead watering. Additionally, provide adequate ventilation to prevent disease and encourage pollination.
