How can I remove a large cordyline and its roots?

I need to get rid of a large cordyline and its roots. What is the best way to do this successfully?

The best way to remove a large cordyline and its roots is to cut it flush to ground level. If the cordyline is still alive and re-sprouts, you can spray the new shoots with Roundup. Eventually, the cordyline will die, and its roots will rot. Digging out the roots is otherwise very difficult, so cutting it down and using Roundup to kill it off is the most effective method for removing a large cordyline and its roots.
