How to control weeds around my beech hedge and lavender plants?

I have an issue with weeds growing around my beech hedge. I have Gallop weed killer, but I am not sure if it is safe to use. Can you suggest what I should use instead? Also, there is a high bank with lavender planted on it, and it has been taken over by weeds. Can I use weed killer around the lavender without damaging it?

Gallop weed killer contains glyphosate, which is similar to Roundup. It can be used around young trees and shrubs, but you need to be careful not to get it on the leaves or stems as it can penetrate thin bark. It does not affect the soil. Try using it carefully on a small area and observe its effects. If needed, you can get a spray hood, or make one using a cut-off plastic 5-litre bottle. To control weeds around lavender, use weed killer very carefully without getting it on the lavender plants. Alternatively, you can pull the weeds by hand or use a hoe to keep them at bay.
