How to use turf ash in gardening?

Is there any practical use for turf ash from the firegrate in gardening? Can it be used as a fertilizer or to improve soil quality?

While turf ash is biodegradable, it has almost no plant nutrients and doesn't improve soil structure. However, it can still be spread over the soil in any part of the garden without causing any harm.
