Using Multipurpose Compost for Heathers
I need to plant some heathers, but I could not find any ericaceous compost in the garden center. Can I use Multipurpose compost with added John Innes instead?
Multipurpose compost with added John Innes usually has lime added, which may not be suitable for all heather plants. Some kinds of heathers, such as winter heathers, can tolerate lime, while others require acid soil. Therefore, it is important to check which kind of heather you have. If it can tolerate lime, you can mix the Multipurpose compost with the soil. If it requires acid soil, you should use ericaceous compost instead. The Multipurpose compost can be used for other plants.
